Meet Katherine

Katherine McNichol is a Registered Psychotherapist who helps people break the people-pleasing patterns and master the art of setting healthy boundaries.

Katherine is dedicated to offering clear strategies for change, and helping recovering people-pleasers rediscover their power and agency to empower themselves.

I founded Blue Mind Counselling to create a space where you can be seen, heard, and supported without judgment. My work is deeply inspired by the Blue Mind concept—the idea that water has a calming and restorative effect on our minds and bodies. Just like the soothing rhythm of the ocean or the stillness of a quiet lake, I want our sessions to feel like a place where you can exhale, reflect, and begin to heal.

Many of my clients come to me feeling emotionally drained, stuck in cycles of self-doubt, or unsure how to advocate for themselves in relationships. Together, we work to break free from those patterns, reframe limiting beliefs, and build confidence in setting healthy boundaries. My approach is warm, direct, and deeply compassionate.

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist

Before I became a psychotherapist, I was drawn to understanding people—how we think, feel, and connect with one another. My path into this work was personal. Anxiety, overthinking, and people-pleasing were once familiar struggles in my own life. I know what it’s like to carry the weight of expectations, to feel guilty for saying no, and to constantly worry about disappointing others.

Through my own personal growth, education, and years of working with individuals just like you, I’ve learned that healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself—it’s about rediscovering who you are beneath all the pressure and self-doubt. It’s about reclaiming your voice, setting boundaries without guilt, and creating a life where you feel at peace with yourself.

A Little More About Me

Beyond my work, I love traveling and have found that exploring different places and cultures has helped me appreciate the many ways people find meaning and connection in their lives. Travel has been a powerful reminder that growth comes from stepping outside of our comfort zones—something I encourage in therapy as well.

I also find peace by the water, whether it’s a quiet walk by the lake or my daily swim at the local rec center. It’s a reminder that healing doesn’t happen in an instant, it’s a gradual process, like the tide moving in and out.

Let’s Work Together

Together, we will explore and assess why you’re feeling the way you are, and what the best path forward is. Everything is tailored to your personal challenges and goals, and I use a number of different approaches to support your growth and healing.

If you’re ready to start prioritizing yourself, setting boundaries without guilt, and learning how to manage your emotions in a healthier way, I’d love to support you. If you’re ready to explore therapy, whether you’re a young adult finding your way or a professional evaluating your life’s trajectory, I invite you to reach out. Appoaches

  • CBT is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It focuses on developing healthier coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns

  • EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process and heal from distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements. It aims to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic experiences and promote adaptive coping.

  • This approach views individuals within the context of their family dynamics, recognizing that relationships and communication patterns impact mental health. It helps families improve interactions, resolve conflicts, and create healthier, more supportive relationships.

  • EFT helps individuals and couples explore, understand, and regulate their emotions to foster healing and personal growth. It focuses on deepening emotional awareness, reshaping emotional responses, and improving interpersonal connections.

  • This approach is designed to help individuals process and recover from trauma by integrating evidence-based techniques that address the emotional, psychological, and physiological effects of traumatic experiences. It often incorporates elements of CBT, EMDR, and other trauma-informed interventions.

  • Narrative therapy helps individuals reshape their self-identity by exploring the stories they tell about their lives. It empowers clients to externalize problems, reframe negative narratives, and construct more meaningful and positive life stories.

  • DBT is a skills-based therapy that combines CBT principles with mindfulness and emotion regulation strategies. It is particularly effective for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation, self-harm, or borderline personality disorder.

  • SFT is a goal-oriented, brief therapy that focuses on finding practical solutions rather than analyzing problems. It helps individuals identify their strengths, set achievable goals, and build on past successes to create positive change in their lives.
