Frequently Asked Questions
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes! Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress management, and trauma.
In fact, many clients find online therapy even more beneficial because:
You're in a comfortable environment where you feel safe and relaxed
It's more accessible – no commute, no waiting rooms, no weather concerns
It's easier to fit into your schedule – sessions during lunch breaks, early mornings, or evenings
Privacy and convenience – especially helpful for those with busy lives, mobility concerns, or living in rural areas
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a therapist?
No, you do not need a referral from your doctor to book therapy with me. You can book directly through my website or contact me for a free consultation.
What is the easiest way to make an appointment?
We understand that when clients decide to start therapy they may be in distress and want to talk with someone as soon as possible. There are several ways to access our services.
If you are NEW to Blue Mind, the quickest way to make an appointment is to click the “BOOK NOW” button at the top Right hand corner of our website. This will direct you to a secure site to complete the steps to register an account with us and book your initial appointment.
You can sign into your account at any time to manage your account details, and counselling appointments.
You can call our office at (705) 623-9360. PLEASE NOTE: We rely solely on our auto-attendant system. That means, that if you call into our office there is a high probability that you will be asked to leave a message on our main voicemail.
You can email the clinic at admin@bluemindmhs.com.
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and the “fit” between you and your therapist can make a big difference in how meaningful your therapeutic work is. We may be a good fit if you:
Struggle with people-pleasing or setting boundaries and want to learn how to say no, prioritize your needs, and let go of guilt.
Value a warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative approach where therapy feels like a conversation, free from pressure to solve a complex problem quickly.
Are ready to understand yourself on a deeper level, exploring patterns, emotions, and beliefs that keep you feeling stuck.
Have encountered stressful experiences that you would like help processing.
Appreciate a blend of practical tools and emotional insight, using approaches like CBT, self-compassion, and emotion regulation to create real change.
Want to work with someone who “gets” anxiety, relationship dynamics, and family patterns and helps you set healthy limits while still caring for others.
Are open to being gently challenged and pushed outside of your comfort zone.
Do you accept insurance?
We don’t bill insurance directly, but do provide a detailed receipt after each session that you can submit for reimbursement. Psychotherapy sessions may be covered by extended health insurance plans that include services from a Registered Psychotherapist. Coverage varies by provider, so I recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm if psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist is included in your plan.
How many sessions will I need?
We can’t put a time limit or number on how many sessions anyone may want or need. Therapy is not an exact science and there are NO quick fixes! Since the process of therapy often involves working through tough personal issues it can take less or more time than expected. Sometimes changes occur quite rapidly and at other times it can be slow and possibly frustrating. Client’s improvement in therapy has been related to the strength of the therapeutic relationship, the readiness and commitment of the client, and the amount of energy clients personally invest in their well-being outside of the therapy space. However, by staying engaged in the process it does produce change. We stay committed to your process until there is a collaborative agreement that it is no longer needed.
Do you provide Phone or Video Counselling?
Yes we do! Both are possible. When you book your appointment you can choose which modality you'd like for your session - video, or phone.
What are your rates?
Individual Psychotherapy sessions are $170 per 50 minute session and couples therapy is $180 per 50 minute session.
How do I get started?
You can get started by booking a free 20-minute consultation through the online booking page. During this call, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and whether my approach feels like a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we will schedule your first session and you will receive an intake form via email to be completeted prior to your first session.
What can I expect from the first session?
Before your first session, you’ll receive an intake and consent form to complete. This helps me learn more about your background, goals, and what’s been going on in your life so we can make the most of our time together.
During the first session, we’ll take time to:
Talk more in depth about what brought you to therapy and the history of your concerns.
Discuss your goals, expectations, and any questions you might have
Begin to explore what’s been challenging and what support could look like for you
The first session is focused on building comfort, safety, and understanding. Many clients leave feeling heard, supported, and with a clearer sense of direction for the next steps in their therapeutic process.
